CRED' Capacity Building and Training Programme enables people, communities and organizations to strengthen their capabilities to develop, implement and maintain effective health sector services. The programme also provides guidance and support on preventing and responding to disasters, conflicts and other humanitarian emergencies.
The Centre develops, implements and evaluates training materials and courses to help international agencies, national governments, non-governmental organizations, research institutes and schools of public health strengthen their technical capacity in emergency public health management.
CRED strives to improve disaster management capacities through institutional and community capacity-building, information and data management, and partnerships. In addition, the Centre provides training in public health, epidemiology, natural disaster management and complex emergency intervention.
Summer Course: Assessing Public Health in Emergency Situations (APHES)
This two-week intensive course is designed to familiarize professionals with the epidemiological techniques to determine the health impacts of disasters and conflicts. The course covers the different uses of quantitative tools for the assessment of the health needs of populations affected by catastrophic events. Participants are also given the chance to put the knowledge acquired during theoretical classes into practice.
The course is taught by an international faculty comprised of reputable professors from a range of prestigious intitutions. Topics covered include malnutrition, infectious diseases, mortality, morbidity, mental health, reproductive health, and population displacement.

Graduate University Courses:
CRED is a member of the Joint Europe Master's in International Humanitarian Action (NOHA). This inter-university and multidisciplinary postgraduate programme provides high-quality academic education and professional competencies for personnel currently working - or intending to work - in the area of humanitarian action.
Professional staff from CRED teach a variety of subjects including emergency medical services, epidemiological application, and psychiatric care in emergencies. The courses also prepare students intending to travel to developing countries for medical interships.
CRED is a partner institution for the EMJMPHID programme by contributing to lectures and is additionally committed to organize internships for students of the programme.

International Teaching Partnerships:
The CRED staff teaches in several graduate programmes throughout Europe, North America and Asia. Continuous teaching exchanges take place with the University of Heidelberg, the University of Delhi and University of Indonesia, among others.
Workshops and Seminars:
CRED organizes and coordinates expert consultations, seminars and workshops addressing topics related to conflicts and health.
Among others, CRED and Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) have established a partnership to organize yearly seminars and share expertise. In February 2020, seminars on 'Geo-referencing EM-DAT' and 'Natural Disasters: Building an evidence Base of their Impacts' were taught by CRED staff.
